Disease refers to an abnormal condition, a disorder that affects all or a part of an organism. People often fall prey to several diseases and fight for their lives. Some succeed, and some succumb to it. For every illness, there is a cure; but there are certain conditions which are quite rare and strange. Here, we have compiled a list of most bizarre and shocking diseases that are mentioned below.
10. Blue Man Disease
When a body produces the excessive amount of Methemoglobin rather than Hemoglobin in a person’s blood, he is sure to have been infected with ‘Methemoglobinemia’ which turns the color of the affected person from normal to ‘blue’. Other signs and symptoms of this disorder are shortness of breath, change in temperament, tiredness, seizures, headaches and many more.
9. The Stone Man Syndrome
Next up on the list is the ‘stone man syndrome’ — an uncommonly rare connective tissue disorder where the body’s ligaments, muscles, and tendons turn to stone i.e. they ossify and turn into bones. Although these bones can be removed surgically, the body continues the process of ossification; thus leaving the structure of the body deformed and distorted.
8. The Ware Wolf Syndrome
It is the disease where a person begins to sprout hair all over his body including face! This is the result of the malfunctioning of the ‘X-chromosome’. The sole treatment of such disease is the laser removal of hair, but these tenacious hair seem to grow right back up!
In this rare disease, the human body develops at a faster rate than the normal aging process or should we say ‘fast-forward.’ As the aging process of the body accelerates the symptoms start showing like baldness at an early age and other complexities like poor vision, heart and bone problems. People suffering from this disease are short-lived and tend to die during their teenage.
6. Perry Romberg Syndrome
In this strange illness, a part of human’s face tissues start to shrink and hence give the latter a deformed shape. The face becomes distorted and asymmetrical. Symptoms of this disease appear in the teenage years when the tissues are growing rapidly.
5. Porphyria Disease
This is also known as the ‘vampire disease’ as the infected person is extremely allergic to sunlight and garlic and has ‘fang-like gums; hence the name ‘vampire disease’ originated. This rare disorder makes the infected body create large amounts of Porphyrins due to which the body loses the RBCs i.e. the red blood cells and the ‘red color’.
4. Necrotizing Fasciitis
Small cuts and bruises are short lived, provided there is the absence of the ‘flesh-eating bacteria’, because if the latter is present, then these minor cuts can become lethal in a matter of hours. For these bacteria do not eat flesh rather it oozes out a toxin which destroys the skin tissues and the ‘small scrape’ results in an infected wound which becomes deadly in 30-40% of all the cases. The only solution that is left is the heavy dosage of antibiotics or the amputation of the infected area.
Caused by a parasitic worm called microfilariae injected into the human body via mosquitoes, Elephantiasis as the name of the disease suggests causes some parts of the body to enlarge i.e. to the size of an elephant. Upon being injected, the parasite reproduces and spreads throughout the bloodstream culturing in the blood vessels. By doing so, they restrict the blood flow and cause the fluid to build up in the tissues which result in the swelling of that particular part of the body to an enormous size.
2. Tree-Man Disease
It is an immune deficiency. It occurs due to the failure of human response to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Type 2 and is roots from the genetical disorder. People having weak immunity system to counteract the HPV tend to get infected by this disease; their body becomes unstable in containing warts and the latter start growing into the shape of “cutaneous horns.”
1. Mermaid Syndrome
This a rare inborn deformity where a child is born with its legs fused together giving it a shape of a ‘mermaid’. This disorder is quite rare and occurs one in a million births. The child suffering from such disease dies within a day or two due to the renal complexities and urinary bladder problems.
